We have an amazing opportunity for a highly motivated and skilled Collections Assistant at Parliamentary Service.
The Parliamentary Collection is made up of over 4500 items including artworks, sculpture, historical items, and gifts from other parliaments. We provide public access to the Collection in the form of tours, displays, and exhibitions. Equally important is the care, maintenance, and record keeping of our art and objects and this new role will allow for ownership of collection management processes and projects.
This is a varied role with plenty of scope to be involved in projects as well as day-to day duties. Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Providing care and regular maintenance of the collection in line with museum-standard practices
- Undertaking administrative duties/record keeping (loans, copyright) in relation to the Collection
- Assisting with digitisation of the Collection
- Providing art tours
- Assisting with the facilitation of display changes and exhibitions
- Responding to enquiries from staff and public
As part of a small team you will need to be flexible and have good time management skills. You will be at ease communicating with diverse audiences and have the ability to handle multiple projects and tasks. You will have excellent administrative and planning skills, an understanding of copyright, and advanced Vernon Systems skills. Experience with photographing Collection objects an advantage.
This role is suited to someone with an interest and broad understanding of art and/or history with at least two years' experience in a museum or gallery setting. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of standard museum practices in relation to collection management and a post graduate qualification in the arts, conservation or curatorial skills (eg Museum Studies/Practice).
