What the job involves
This newly shaped full time position reports to the Art Gallery and Museum Deputy Director and will see you responsible for the development and delivery of the gallery's annual exhibition programme. You will work closely with others in the organisation to plan innovative and exciting exhibitions drawing on our collections and network of artists. You will lead the installation and de-installation of shows and be involved from the ground up, ensuring that the vision of artists and our programmes are met.
You will have a thorough understanding of collection management principles and ethics as a key decision maker for the ongoing growth, documentation and use of the art collection.
You'll be responsible for ensuring that knowledge about our art collection and exhibitions is accessible, along with creating opportunities that connect people with our collections and visual arts in the Ashburton District. You'll provide excellent customer service for researchers, undertake and manage projects, and champion the successful integration between our Gallery and Museum functions.
Who are we looking for?
An individual with the passion and commitment to join our established and high functioning team. You will have a tertiary qualification and a minimum of three years' experience in a gallery environment. You'll be a self-starter who can work within a team, but is equally happy to work alone and unsupervised. Your written and verbal communication will be second to none, as will be your organisational skills. You'll have a sound understanding of contemporary curatorial practice and ethics and any legislative requirements applicable to art collections, loans and exhibitions.
