The New Zealand Maritime Museum (NZMM) houses one of New Zealand’s most important heritage collections, comprising approximately two million items. 

As an institution of national significance in the cultural heritage landscape of New Zealand, a Digitisation Project is being undertaken to generate an extensively digitised collection that will enable NZMM to provide greater access and high quality information to the community; and to secure the collection for generations to come.
 
To achieve this, the New Zealand Maritime Museum is bringing together a team of specialists to deliver this project.
 
He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Reporting to the Digitisation Project Manager, the Digitisation Records Lead is a key member of this project, responsible for generating a comprehensive collection inventory of the New Zealand Maritime Museum’s collection. 
 
In this dynamic role, you will oversee the cataloguing process and lead the information management workflow, finding efficiencies and mitigating obstacles. You will develop record standards  and manage the digitisation records in keeping with project goals.
 
This role also includes supervision of the Digitisation Records Assist and Digitisation Support Technician, and Project Contractors, if required.
 
He kōrero mōu: About you

You will bring 5+ years’ experience in information management or 3+ years post-qualification experience, such as a Diploma in information management, library and information studies, data management, or museum studies and must have proven leadership experience, excellent people skills and a desire to contribute towards a positive and collegial team culture.
 
You will be naturally agile, practical and resourceful with excellent computer skills, including the use of Vernon CMS (or a similar collection management programme). Skillful use of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and the ability to use computers as management tools is preferable.

A thorough understanding of best practice museum information management, cataloguing and handling of a range of museum collections is advantageous!
 
With your clear communication and attention to detail, you will be goal-orientated and ready to take on this challenge.
 
Finally, we're looking for someone to provide advocacy for new, long-lasting systems and processes within this space for the NZ Maritime Museum.

The New Zealand Maritime Museum Hui Te Ananui A Tangaroa is the place where the stories of people and the sea are preserved, shared, and explored with our visitors.
 
This role provides varied database and legacy collection challenges and is vital to this Digitisation Project, providing a valuable contribution to the local and international community.
 
This is a 12-month, fixed-term, full-time role, working 40 hours across Monday to Friday, with some flexibility around start and finish times.
 
Primarily based in Auckland’s vibrant Viaduct Basin on Hobson Wharf, you will also be required to work on some days at our Avondale site, with the option of booking RFA vehicles.
