MOTAT

Exhibitions Developer – Mātauranga Māori

Are you passionate about exhibition content and interpretation? Do you bring a Māori worldview to your mahi? Want to be a part of developing our new Science & Technology Centre?

MOTAT is currently seeking an Exhibitions Developer – Mātauranga Māori to join a core project team to develop and deliver a new Science and Technology centre. The SciTech Centre is at the heart of MOTAT’s vision to educate and inspire the innovators of tomorrow, confirming MOTAT as the go to place for science and technology in Aotearoa. This new destination will be a playful and accessible platform for exhibition and experiences that bring science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) to life, alongside heritage collections and innovations from New Zealand’s current leaders in these fields.

About the role

The Exhibitions Developer – Mātauranga Māori will take the lead on the development and delivery of content and interpretation from an ao Māori perspective. With a natural ability to walk in two worlds, you will be someone who thrives in an environment where our visitors are at the forefront of what we do, and where we aim to attract a diverse audience through the successful delivery of an interactive exhibitions programme.  Primarily this role will focus on the development and delivery for MOTAT’s new centre for science, technology, and innovation (‘SciTech Centre’) but will also be involved in other exhibitions projects, including MOTAT’s Pumphouse project and Te Wai Ōrea narrative.

This is a 2-year fixed term 40 hour per week position, with the benefit of flexible working hours and the ability to work a portion of hours from home each week.

About you

Ultimately, you are you, and we appreciate that everyone brings different strengths to the team. We want you to bring your unique flair to your work, acknowledging that we all come from different backgrounds, previous work contexts, and areas of expertise.  We want you to tell us about yourself and the knowledge you bring when it comes to developing creative, audience-focused experiences from a Māori worldview. Share with us about how you have fostered meaningful and longstanding relationships, particularly within te ao Māori (Māori organisations, cultural advisors, and community groups). Through your past experiences you will have developed the ability to identify, understand and respond to target audiences. Ideally you will have built these skills in a museum setting, however as long as you can demonstrate an understanding of the considerations and processes required to work with museum collections, that’s all we need!

About us

Why chose MOTAT? Here at MOTAT, we truly look to inspire your thoughts, ideas, and innovative ways of working. We want to create a working environment that provides you with the confidence to come to work as your true self, every day! Our commitment to those in roles where you are asked to break new ground, grow kaupapa, and draw on your cultural self is that you will have time in your work hours to contribute to your own iwi, hapū, and/or whānau to ensure your connections and ties remain strong and your cup is full.
Not quite ready to apply and want to find out more? We are hosting an open evening on Thursday, 12 May from 3:00 – 7:00pm where you can come in a speak directly with our team and ask us any burning questions you have about our new roles.
