An exciting kōwhiringa /opportunity has arisen within the Te Aka Matua Research Library at Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. The position of Librarian will contribute to the provision of quality research and reference service support to Te Papa staff and external researchers.

Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Knowledge and Information this role is responsible for caring for Te Papa's Artist and Exhibition file special collection, including advising on future direction, access and partnerships to ensure the ephemera collection develops as a resource. This role manages the subscriptions, both physical and electronic, ensuring that incoming serials can be accessed effectively. You are an enthusiastic, qualified and experienced librarian/information professional, who can support varied research enquiries and steers the workflow of serials from acquisition to shelf-readiness. You are excited to develop new approaches to collecting digital and physical ephemera and how we can enhance access. You like to work in a team environment, developing strong internal relationships and with those in the wider library sector. You work collaboratively and proactively, with a commitment to increasing knowledge, understanding and application of kaitiakitanga. You have an interest in enhancing library digital practices and access to special collections.

To be successful in the role you will have the following:

•    Professional qualification in library, information management, or related field (e.g.
•    museum studies).
•    Two to three years' experience working in a library or information management role
•    Experience working with serials, and or ephemera special collections is highly desirable
•    Good research and reference skills
•    Experience of information management systems, e.g. Koha Library Software
•    Proven customer service focus
•    Experience with Ngā Upoko Tukutuku | Maori Subject headings
•    Commitment to working in a bicultural organisation and knowledge of te reo Māori
•    Enthusiasm to develop library services - remain relevant and increase access
•    Strong inter-personal and proactive team contribution skills
•    Experience of financial transaction processing and support is desirable
•    Experience using the NZ InterLibrary Loan system is desirable
•    Knowledge of the museum sector - confident establishing and maintaining relationships and networks
     with other museums, galleries and memory institutions
•    Problem-solving skills, attention to detail and commitment to completion (shelf-readiness).
•    Valid driver's licence is desirable

The salary range for this position is $59,770 to $82,183. Offers will be made within the range to reflect the skills and experience offered by the candidate and those required of the role, and internal relativities with other employees.
