Are you our next Visitor Experience Manager? Are you collaborative and creative, with the skills and experience to lead a multifaceted team to develop events and programmes for MOTAT’s audiences? Do you bring an understanding of te ao Māori (or a desire to learn) to your mahi?

MOTAT is an interactive museum with a focus on creating a fun, educational, and inspiring environment for our visitors. We are home to a unique mix of collections and experiences centred around the past, present, and future technology of Aotearoa New Zealand.

About the Role

Reporting to the Public Programmes Manager, you will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of MOTAT’s seasonal visitor programmes, experiences, and events. Along with your team you will develop and deliver a programme of interactive experiences and events for children and families, which educate and inspire an interest in science, technology, and innovation in all of its forms. We’re increasingly seeking to bring a te ao Māori perspective to our storytelling and programme development, so if you bring mātauranga Māori and have an ability to walk in two worlds that would be a huge benefit which would be wholeheartedly embraced.

This a full-time role, largely working Monday to Friday each week. As it is a hands-on role weekends and evenings will be required at times, to support the delivery of programmes. Flexible working policies are in place though and will provide you with the ability to adjust your working hours around your personal commitments.

About You

We’re interested to hear from anyone who has around five years of visitor experience development and delivery experience, having managed people, projects, and budgets in previous role(s). Ideally you will come from a public events, placemaking, or arts background, but if you feel you have skills from a different environment that you could bring to this role, let us know in your application.

You will be a strong and empathetic leader who thrives in an environment where visitors are at the forefront of experience development, and where we aim to attract a diverse audience through the delivery of our programmes.

Why Chose MOTAT?

This is a great time to join a team with the experience and enthusiasm to position MOTAT as a ‘must experience’ venue here in Tāmaki Makaurau. Not only will you get to work with great people in the heart of Te Wai Ōrea Western Springs, but you will also get the benefit of flexible working policies, birthday leave and study leave, and additional KiwiSaver contributions, and a MOTAT Mates annual pass for you and your family.
