Visitor Experience Manager

As a key member of the Waikato Museum team, the Visitor Experience Manager will be responsible for developing and delivering the best possible experiences for all visitors to Waikato Museum onsite, offsite and online. As part of the leadership team reporting to the Director, you will co-develop and manage an inspirational and transformational visitor experience programme that reflects our identity and speaks to our Waikato communities. This is an exciting role, responsible for leading front of house services, public programmes, education, and community engagement for Waikato Museum. The remit for this role is broad and complex, offering the right person the strategic bandwidth to make their mark and enhance the public experience of Waikato Museum.
In this position, you will foster positive best practice in order to grow audiences, visitation loyalty, and overall satisfaction with the Museum. You will work with the team to integrate quality customer service, creativity, pedagogical expertise, and community participation into the overall visitor experience programme. You will also have a focus on strengthening our sustainability through operating more efficiently and maximising opportunities for income generation. On a day-to-day basis, you will provide direction and support to the team with a focus on creating a welcoming, engaging, and fun experience for all those who visit. The creative side of you will enjoy the identification and development of new services and products along with working collaboratively with other teams at the Museum and across the Visitor Destinations Unit.
The Visitor Experience Manager is an advocate for the museum locally, regionally, and nationally and will possess a high degree of integrity and professionalism.
We’re looking for an empowering leader who may have come from the museum, tourism, creative or event management sectors. You will lead and inspire our front-of-house visitor experience, public programmes and education teams to deliver high quality and engaging customer experiences. You will have proven experience in developing and managing complex programmes that target and attract diverse audiences, along with a wide range of networks and partnerships in the sector and community. A strong knowledge of Te Reo Maaori, and Te Ao Maaori would be valued.
This is an opportunity to manage the visitor experience operation of Waikato Museum, delivering a range of services to our visitors including hosting, tours, exhibitions, education and unique experiences. We’re looking for candidates who are great communicators, exude professionalism, and are willing to go the extra mile to help visitors and the wider Museum team. As the Museum operates 7 days per week, 364 days per year you will need to be visible, flexible, and available to your team.
