Pompallier Mission and Printery - Permanent full time

Pompallier Mission and Printery in Kororāreka (Russell) is part of the national suite of historic properties managed by Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga, and is one of the top visitor attractions in the Bay of Islands. Activities onsite include guided historic tours, a successful French café and retail gift shop which add a vibrant dynamic to this busy 7 day per week site.

The Visitor Services Co-ordinator will assist the Property Lead in the daily operations of this property.  The role includes a wide range of exciting opportunities to promote heritage and provide high quality experiences for visitors to these historic places.

The role is varied and includes administration, greeting visitors, tour guiding, management and promotion for functions, development and delivery of the events programme, providing retail support, championing social media and communications, managing rosters, assisting with housekeeping if needed.

Our ideal candidate will be a motivated team player, have outstanding customer service and administrative skills, with preferably experience in event management, tourism, marketing and/or the heritage sector in a bicultural context. The role will include regular week-end work e.g. Tuesday-Saturday and some evenings when there are events. It is a hands-on role, and requires someone who is practical, flexible, organised and energetic.

Bi-cultural responsiveness is essential to ensure that the Treaty of Waitangi (Te Tiriti O Waitangi), and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga’s vision for Maori Heritage (Tapuwae) as a leading bicultural heritage organisation are upheld actively on site. This includes an awareness and sensitivity towards the cultural and spiritual values associated with the organisation’s properties, experience in (or willingness to) incorporate te reo and tikanga Maori into our everyday mahi.

If you are a good communicator and enthusiastic about working with us in Tairangahia a tua whakarere; tātakihia ngā reanga o āmuri ake nei – Honouring the past; inspiring the future, please apply!

Applications for this role close at 5pm on Wednesday 15 September 2021.
