Auckland War Memorial Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira

Tāmaki Paenga Hira: Tui tui hono tangata, whenua me te moana.
Auckland War Memorial Museum: Connecting through sharing stories of people, lands and seas.

Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland's identity, committed to outstanding management of its world-class collections and the employees and volunteers who tell the Museum's stories. We are Auckland's home of commemoration as well as the country's oldest research institution and a major tourist destination.

The Wikimedian in Residence will help unlock the potential knowledge held within Tāmaki Paenga Hira's academic outputs and research publications. This fixed-term and part-time position will entail uploading information into Wikidata, adding citations to Wikipedia, and uploading images and other media into Wikimedia Commons.

We want to strengthen our relationship with both the local Auckland Wikimedia community and the New Zealand movement nationally. The role holder will be responsible for arranging training events and talks to share the work we are undertaking and investigate how we can build a sustainable model of knowledge-gathering and publishing to continue after the project has ended.

This is a short term 3-month project role requiring 30hours of part-time work per week. The position is scheduled to commence on 8 January 2021 and finish on 2 April 2021. This position is paying $26.20 per hour. This position is supported financially by WikiCite, a Wikimedia initiative to develop open citations and linked bibliographic data to serve free knowledge. Details of the funding for this application can be found on Meta-Wiki.

To be successful in this fixed term role, you will offer:

  • Exceptional knowledge of the full Wikimedia family of platforms, with demonstrable experience in editing Wikipedia and communicating with other Wikimedians
  • A good understanding of the activities and strategic motivations of Wikimedia
  • Familiarity with social networking as a means to broadcast information to a wide audience
  • The ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, at all levels and to discuss complex and sensitive issues with a wide range of people

You must be eligible to currently work in New Zealand to apply for this short-term and part-time position.

Auckland Museum offers a rich and fulfilling work life where we embrace diversity and nurture our bicultural capability as demonstrated in our Teu le Va and He Korahi Maori strategies. We also offer a range of great benefits such as flexible work and leave and an award-winning wellbeing programme.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to be part of a fabulous New Zealand organisation committed to telling our national and Auckland stories, reflecting our unique place in the South Pacific.
