The social history of this farming community is illustrated through an eclectic collection. The unique submarine Platypus was built in 1873 to prospect for gold. Other features include the exhibition, “At Home in Middlemarch during WW1,” an equestrian display of wartime saddles and other gear, and the history of Otago Central Railway. The Museum also has an extensive photographic collection.
