The Gus Fisher Gallery is a stunning Grade I listed building in the heart of Auckland Central. Originally custom-built as TV and Radio studios in 1934 in a Neo-Romanesque architectural style, it was importantly the site of the first TV broadcast in New Zealand in 1960. In keeping with its television history, the building is located on Shortland Street connecting it to the New Zealand soap opera of the same name. The gallery is named after its patron, Gus Fisher (1920 - 2010) who was a leading figure in the New Zealand fashion industry.

Since 2001, the Gus Fisher Gallery has occupied the upper floor of this incredible building. Under the direction of a new Curator of Contemporary Art from May 2018, we are planning to embark on a new journey to engage and expand audiences through a revitalized and relevant programme of exhibitions, events and conversations for all from 2019. We want everyone to feel welcomed, excited and passionate about contemporary art and all it can offer.
