The Minister of Conservation has released a Discussion Document on regulation of sale of the remains of extinct fauna under section 72(2)(l) of the Wildlife Act 1953. The proposed regulations under the Wildlife Act 1953 will prohibit – with some exemptions – the sale and purchase of bones, eggs, and other remains of extinct native species including moa. You can find additional background in Te Papa's blog.
