DOC Discussion Document: Proposed Extinct Species Trade Regulations 2020
The Minister of Conservation has released a Discussion Document on regulation of sale of the remains of extinct fauna under section 72(2)(l) of the Wildlife Act 1953. The proposed regulations under the Wildlife Act 1953 will prohibit – with some exemptions – the sale and purchase of bones, eggs, and other remains of extinct native species including moa. You can find additional background in Te Papa's blog.
MA would like to know if there is a consistent view of the proposal before formulating a submission. If there is significant interest we will arrange a forum to discuss your views. Please contact Phillipa by email or tel 04 499 1313.
