Collection Manager Humanities (Art)

Collection Manager Humanities (Art)

Te Manawa

Te Manawa is a ‘museum without boundaries’ and will become one of New Zealand’s most exciting cultural institutions.  Built on a foundation of manaakitanga our purpose is to really make a difference to people’s lives and to amplify the sense of what’s possible for our community and in the world.  We will do this through partnering and co-creating with communities, thought-leaders, change-makers and supporters to generate innovative programmes built on fresh thinking and often experimental approaches.

As an experienced Collections Manager, you will bring with you a solid understanding of collection management principles and methodology to ensure that our collections are highly accessible to the community while ensuring their safety.   You’ll also be proficient in the use of relevant record keeping and image capture systems and software so that we are able to accurately keep track of the details and condition of our collection, including those items that are either borrowed by Te Manawa or are on loan to other institutions.

You’ll be working with a wide range of people across the organisation to maximise exposure to the collections, so you’ll need to be an effective communicator and passionately believe in Te Manawa’s strategic vision.  You’ll also be required to be reasonably fit as this role involves standing for periods of time and moving items of the collection.  While you’ll primarily have responsibility for Te Manawa’s art collection, you’ll also be expected to have a good understanding across all other collections.  It would be advantageous to have a qualification in a relevant discipline.
